1. Download Wallpaper Enginehttps://store.steampowered.com/app/431960/Wallpaper_Engine/Visit the Wallpaper Engine Steam page. Typically, the app will cost you between $3 and $5. The price will vary slightly depending on where you live. Don't try to get the free version of the app as you won't have access to the Steam Workshop wallpapers.2. Install a wallpaper engineAfter purchasing Wallpaper Engine, the application will appear in your Steam library under Software.In your Steam library, you have the option to right-click on Wallpaper Engine to add it to your favorites, making it easier to find the next time you want to use it.3. Launch the applicationAfter launching the application in the Steam Library, it will appear in the system tray of the Windows taskbar. Be sure to open it and right-click on the Wallpaper Engine logo.Then select Change wallpaper.4. Select displayIf you are using multiple displays, select one of them. You can also split ultra-wide monitors to show wallpaper from both sides.In addition, you have the option to choose one wallpaper for the left monitor and another wallpaper for the right monitor (or sides if split). Finally, mute or unmute wallpaper on each monitor.If you're not sure about the screen resolution, right-click on the desktop and select Display settings. In this window, in the Scale and Layout section, make sure that the recommended resolution and screen scale are selected.In my case, the recommended resolution is 3840 x 1080, so I split it into two 1920x1080 displays. You can also mute a specific section or monitor from here.5. Choose a wallpaperGo to the Workshop tab. Here you can search for specific wallpaper titles or filter by Most Popular, Most Recent, Most Followed, Most Voted, Created by Friends, Created by Followed Users, and Most Rated. In the Filter results section, you can improve your search by using more search metrics.Typically, video type wallpapers take the longest to download as their files can exceed 1 GB of storage. Scene wallpapers are very popular as their file size is small and they require a small amount of resources to run. In the Resolution section, you have the option to search for wallpapers based on your native monitor resolution. This is especially useful for users with abnormal screen resolutions.You can change the type, age rating and resolution to find the right wallpaper to use.After subscribing to wallpapers, it will take some time to download. These wallpapers can go from under 1MB to over a couple GB, depending on what you're looking for. Generally, looping a high-res video takes up a lot of storage space and can also use up a lot of your CPU and GPU resources, depending on your system.6. Create a wallpaperIf you want to create your own Wallpaper Engine wallpaper, be sure to find a background image or video first. We suggest using Unsplash to find a free high resolution image. Once you find something you like, be sure to select Wallpaper Editor in the Wallpaper Engine app.In the wallpaper editor, you have the option to create a wallpaper from scratch, edit the latest wallpaper, or use a template. If this is your first time using this editor, we suggest using a template first. You can also drag the downloaded background image to the application. Select a project name and color scheme and click ok. The color scheme will be applied to windows after users try your wallpaper. You have the option to change it later when editing the wallpaper in the editor.Use the mouse scroll wheel to zoom in and out of the image.On the right, you have the option to add effects to your image, such as animation and blur effects, distortions, enhancements, and you can even download more effects from the Steam Workshop by selecting Browse Workshop.On the left, you can add layers and change scene settings. As before, you can choose from a variety of workshop presets and assets to add to your image or video file.7. Post your wallpaperIf you want to publish your wallpaper, go to "Workshop" and then Share this wallpaper on the Workshop.Be sure to set a title, genre, and description for your new wallpaper. Set the age category setting to the correct setting, visibility to Public, friends only, or private, and be sure to use the Steam Workshop preview image and find it better in the app.
